1/06/08 We loaded up the bikes and went
down to Black Diamond to ride the trail system at Lake Sawyer. Lots of single
track and nice tight twisty trails with a covering of fresh snow thrown in
to make the roots nice and slippery.
The ride group consisted of Amy back
on the 08 Kula Deluxe 29, Kevin on his new Specialized Endro, Mr W on the 07
Kula 29 and myself on the Hei Hei 29. With me bringing up the rear.
We
ducked into the trail right out of the parking area. I felt right at home
instantly on this bike. The cockpit measurements are the same on this bike as my
07 Kula 29 hardtail. The bike handled climbs and descents like a champ. Up and
over obstacles with no problems. Did not feel any noticeable flex from the rear
triangle while taking high speed corners or tight turns. I left the
ProPedal lever in the 2nd position for the whole ride and didn't have any
problems. The rear wheel just kept contour following like it was supposed to.
Couple of places on the trail where I got some small air and the bike soaked it
up.
Finished up the ride on the last bit of doubletrack after riding
the Bridges trail. Said our goodbye's and went to look at Black Diamond Bike's
new location and get some hot coffee also.
The bike was a pleasure to
ride.
The out-of-the-box parts spec on this bike works very well. Easy to
set up and hit the trail. We changed the grips because it is wet here in the PNW
and I hate grips that start twisting on the bars.
No dislikes about the
bike.
This bike finished out my bike stable for the year. No need now for
me to order that 26" 4-5" travel bike that I usually have.

Set up
note:
1/15/08 I put a Race Face Evolve XC seat post on this bike to replicate the same cockpit as my Kula
29. It came with the FSA FR 270 seat post which has zero offset. Both bikes are 18"
frames.
